Hagood Mill Native American Celebration 2025 Pickens, SC

Exploring Hagood Mill’s Native American Celebration with Southern E-Bike

This past weekend, we stepped away from the e-bike shop and got out into the community to enjoy one of Pickens County’s most unique cultural events—the Native American Celebration at Hagood Mill Historic Site. It was the perfect opportunity to connect with local history, support regional artisans, and enjoy a family-friendly day right here in the Upstate.

A Step Back in Time at Hagood Mill

Hagood Mill is one of Pickens County’s true gems. Located just minutes from downtown Pickens, the site features a fully restored working grist mill powered by a 20-foot water wheel—a sight that never gets old no matter how many times you visit.

During the Native American Celebration, the grounds were alive with:

  • Native American speakers and storytellers
  • Traditional music and dance performances
  • Demonstrations of crafts, tools, and cultural practices

My boys were especially fascinated by the weapons displays, and the highlight for them was getting the chance to shoot real bows under the guidance of experienced instructors. It’s the kind of hands-on learning that creates memories they’ll be talking about all week.

A One-of-a-Kind Petroglyph Experience

One of the biggest draws at Hagood Mill is the adjacent South Carolina Petroglyph Site, home to one of the state’s only publicly accessible prehistoric rock art locations. Being able to stand in front of petroglyphs created thousands of years ago is something truly special—and a reminder of how deep our region’s history runs.

Celebrating Native American Craftsmanship

The event also featured an impressive lineup of Native American craft vendors, offering everything from handmade jewelry and pottery to leather goods, artwork, and traditional tools. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet the artisans, support their work, and learn more about the cultural significance behind each piece.

The Native American Celebration at Hagood Mill was an incredible experience for our whole family—and another reminder of why we love living and working in Pickens. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a history buff, or a parent looking for meaningful activities for your kids, this event is one we highly recommend adding to your calendar next year.
